Step into the Goldrush on Discovery Day

Take a wander through history on this scenic loop walk in the Wombat State Forest, following part of the Great Dividing Trail. Starting at Jack Cann Reserve, the track winds through beautiful open eucalypt forest and down around Whipstick Creek before looping back to where you began.

Along the way, discover fascinating relics from the region’s gold mining days, when hopeful diggers worked the land by hand in tough conditions. Keep an eye out for the remains of vertical and horizontal mine shafts (including one you can safely view from a purpose-built platform) offering a glimpse into the rugged life of the early goldfields.
