Thanks to everyone who joined us in Trentham on Saturday 4 May (Carnival Day) to celebrate Spudfest in town. It was a wonderful day.

Unfortunately, a number of visitors arrived in town on Sunday, expecting to find our festival in full swing, unaware that our carnival day was Saturday. We couldn’t be more sorry that we had disappointed visitors in our beautiful town on Sunday.

For the first time in many years, we extended Spudfest from a one-day festival, to a two day celebration. Extensive details about the different programs for Day 1 and Day 2 were provided on our website, in our printed program (which was also downloadable from our website), across media coverage in newspapers, online and radio, and regular social media posts.

While we believed we had effectively communicated this information, we understand that these details did not reach some people.

There was plenty happening on Sunday, including sold out local farm tours, a self-guided farm gate trail, the Great Spud Scavenger Hunt, and delicious potato meals across venues throughout the region and historic tours around town. But no carnival.

We are looking at ways to make sure our messaging is clearer for next year.

1 week until the Spudfest celebrations begin! This year’s event is spread across two action-packed days filled with fun activities, delicious food and great company. Here's the rundown:
Saturday:
Whether you like eating, drinking, dancing or playing, Trentham’s Spudfest has you covered! Hosted from 10am to 4pm throughout the historic town of Trentham, Spudfest offers an array of spud-themed food, raffles, tours, hunts, and activities for kids and adults alike.
Topping off the day is Spudfest Cèilidh, which promises an entertaining evening of authentic cuisine, folk music and dancing, held at The Factory on Market Street.
Sunday:
Take a tastebud tour of Trentham’s spud culture at one of many high-quality local food establishments or join one of the many trails and tours hosted by local farmers, Trentham’s historical society, and the RedBeard Historic Bakery.

Meet the Dunn family – who have farmed in Trentham East since 1865!
John and his two sons, Peter and Ian, are responsible for all hard yakka around the farm – including harvesting this year’s Spudfest potatoes!
The Dunn family reckon Trentham is the perfect place to grow potatoes thanks to the cool climate and exceptional soil. They have both red and grey soil on their property, which contain a huge amount of nutrients and grow very flavoursome potatoes!
On their farm they grow over 20 varieties of potatoes; some of which they take to seed to sell commercially to other potato growers. Their potatoes are also sold at town favourite @rubygoosefoods, the South Melbourne Markets and to other spud agents, including restaurant suppliers the @spudsistersofficial.
John’s three granddaughters Sophie (15), Anna (11) and Eleanora (19 months) love everything the farm has to offer, including tractor driving and changing pipes. Harvesting is their favourite time of year and is a great way for them to learn where their food comes from. Youngest Eleanora has even claimed fresh, raw potatoes as the perfect teething toy!
We're so grateful to the Dunn's for their continued involvement in our great festival. Their tasty potatoes will be on sale at Spudfest on Saturday 4 May. You can grab a bag from their stall at the Trentham Railway Precinct.

🧑‍🔧🥔Meet Luke Wicker – a local potato farmer and notable Spudfest committee member.

Luke’s farm is based just outside Trentham where he grows a veritable variety of spuds including: Kipfler, Nicola, Dutch Cream, Pontiac, Sebago, King Edward and Kennebec. His favourite variety are Pontiacs, which were his grandmother’s go-to for Sunday roasting. Yum! 😋

Luke is from a long line of local potato farmers. His 72-year-old Dad, George, runs an adjacent potato farm to Luke’s that’s been in their family since 1876! George is proud as punch to be part of our region’s rich potato history and the thriving farming community that once resided here.

While the number of farms in our region has decreased, we’re grateful to Luke and his family for preserving Trentham's great spud-legacy, and for their continued involvement in our iconic annual festival.

Luke’s range of spectacular spuds will be available at his Spudfest stall located at The Railway Precinct on Saturday 4 May. Or, pick up a bag at his popular local potato stall on Daylesford-Trentham Road while you're doing the Sunday Farm Gate Trail!
